Behind The Fragrances
Every scent at The Fragrance Department begins long before it reaches a bottle. We wanted our process to feel thoughtful, safe, and transparent — because if something is going on your skin, you deserve to know exactly how it’s made.
Here’s how each fragrance comes to life:
1. It Starts With the Notes
Before anything else, we study the scent we’re inspired by — its structure, its personality, the memories people associate with it.
We break down the original notes, rebuild them from scratch, and design our own interpretation using high-quality fragrance oils.
It’s part research, part artistry, and a lot of “does this feel right?”
2. Sourcing From Trusted Suppliers
We only work with reputable UK and international suppliers who specialise in IFRA-compliant fragrance materials.
Every oil we use comes with full ingredient transparency, safety documentation, and traceability.
No mystery chemicals. No shortcuts. No diluted oils.
3. Blended, Bottled & Crafted in the UK
All fragrance blending (at 25% concentration), mixing, bottling, and filling is done here in the UK.
This means we control the quality from start to finish — every batch is mixed consistently, and every bottle is filled by hand or small-scale equipment with care.
We never outsource to mass-production factories where quality varies.
4. Safety First: Fully Tested & Assessed
Before a single bottle can be sold, each fragrance goes through a full CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report) by a qualified UK safety assessor.
This includes:
- toxicology review of every ingredient
- allergen calculations
- concentration checks
- stability & compatibility confirmation
- usage safety for skin contact
If it doesn’t pass every stage, it doesn’t launch. Simple.
5. UK Regulatory Compliance
All products are:
✔ Registered on the UK Cosmetic Portal
✔ Packaged with correct ingredient listings
✔ Compliance-checked to cosmetic regulations
EU Compliance (Already Approved — Just Awaiting RP Activation)
All of our perfumes have already passed the required EU cosmetic safety regulations as part of their CPSR assessment.
The only remaining step before we can open EU orders is the administrative requirement to appoint an official EU Responsible Person — because our team is based in the UK, this role must legally be held by someone within the EU.
We’re currently finalising this with a certified EU company.
Once our RP activation is complete, EU listings will go live immediately and our products will be fully accessible to EU customers.
6. Consistency Check for Every Batch
Before bottling each batch, we compare it with our reference standard to make sure the scent, colour, and strength match what customers expect.
If anything is off — even slightly — it gets adjusted and retested.
Quality control isn’t a final step for us; it’s built into every stage.
7. Packed With Care
Once everything is approved, each bottle is labelled, polished, inspected, and packaged by hand.
We treat our fragrances like keepsakes — because for many people, they really are.
Why We Do It This Way
Because fragrance is personal. It’s memory.
And if we’re bringing back scents people loved — or introducing new ones — they should be safe, consistent, and crafted with intention.
This is the part no one sees…but it’s the part we take the most pride in.
